Privacy Policy

Shubh Kaalam (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the Shubh Kaalam mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

• To authenticate you and maintain your account securely.
• To calculate and display personalised Panchang, Kundli, dasha, and astrological reports based on your birth details. Only birth date, time, and coordinates are transmitted to AstrologyAPI.com — your name, phone number, and account identity are never included in these requests, so AstrologyAPI.com cannot trace the data back to you.
• To determine accurate sunrise, sunset, and Panchang timings for your current location (only when you grant location permission). Location data is used in real time and is not stored on our servers.
• To deliver push notifications for daily Panchang and auspicious timings (only if you grant notification permission).
• To manage your subscription status and unlock or restrict premium features accordingly.
• To analyse usage in aggregate so we can fix bugs and improve the App.
• To enforce our per-account device limit and prevent unauthorised account sharing.
• To measure which of our advertising campaigns bring people to the App, and to let Google and Meta improve the targeting of those campaigns (see Section 2.3).

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We never use your birth details, phone number, or name for advertising, and we never share what you look up in the App — your Panchang, Kundli, charts, or Ask an Astrologer questions — with any advertising partner. Our advertising partners receive only your device's advertising ID, your account's internal identifier, and the fact that a small set of milestone events occurred.

Before transmitting any data to third-party services, we exclude your name, phone number, birth details, and account credentials, except where a service is listed below as receiving them for a specific purpose. Our analytics and advertising partners receive your account's internal identifier so that events belonging to one person can be counted as one person; that identifier is meaningless outside our systems and cannot be used to learn who you are. Specifically:

• AstrologyAPI.com — receives only birth date, time, and geographic coordinates. No name, phone number, or account identifier is included. AstrologyAPI.com has no means to link a calculation request back to you as an individual.
• PostHog — receives your account's internal user ID and your name alongside usage events (screen views, feature taps), so we can identify and support individual users. Your phone number and birth details are never sent to PostHog. PostHog operates as a data processor under our control — this data is not sold or shared with any other party.
• Google Places API — receives only the place name text you type when searching for a birth location. No account information accompanies these requests.
• Twilio — receives your phone number only at the moment of OTP sign-in. It is not shared with any other service and is not retained by Twilio once the message is delivered.
• AI Chat Service (Ask an Astrologer) — receives your question text, birth date, time, coordinates, and gender to generate a personalised response. No name, phone number, or account identifier is included.
• Firebase Crashlytics — receives automatically generated crash reports (device model, OS version, app version, stack trace) when the App encounters an error. Your name, phone number, and birth details are not included.
• Our IP-geolocation lookup — resolves a coarse location from your device's IP address via our own server; the IP address is used only for that lookup and is not stored against your account.
• Google (Google Analytics for Firebase) — receives your device's advertising ID, your account's internal identifier, and a small set of milestone events (app install, signup completed, trial started, subscription purchased) so we can measure which Google ads bring people to the App. No name, phone number, or birth details are included.
• Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — receives the same advertising ID, internal identifier, and milestone events, so we can measure which Meta ads bring people to the App. No name, phone number, or birth details are included. Separately, a Meta Pixel on our website records page views and app-download button clicks on shubhkaalam.com.

Your account data and birth profiles are stored in Supabase, a cloud-hosted database service. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is restricted by row-level security policies so that only you can read your own data.

Your phone number is transmitted to Twilio solely to deliver the OTP SMS during sign-in; Twilio does not retain it beyond what is required to send the message. Birth details (date, time, and geographic coordinates) are transmitted to AstrologyAPI.com to generate astrological calculations. These requests contain no name, phone number, or account identifier — AstrologyAPI.com receives only the bare astronomical parameters and cannot trace the request back to you as an individual. Birth place search text is transmitted to the Google Places API; only the final selected place name and coordinates are stored in your profile.

Analytics data is stored by PostHog on servers in the United States. Subscription data is stored by RevenueCat. Push notification tokens are stored by Firebase (Google). Ad measurement data is stored by Google and by Meta on their own infrastructure, which may be outside your country. Each of these third-party processors has its own security and privacy practices.

While we take reasonable precautions, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

The App uses the following third-party services that may process your data:

We retain your account data and birth profiles for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data and birth profiles are permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days. Aggregated, anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your account and associated data.
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
• Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. disabling push notifications).
• Limit ad measurement and personalisation. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time from your device settings — on Android, under Settings → Google → All services → Ads; on iOS, by turning off Allow Apps to Request to Track under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Deleting the advertising ID stops us and our advertising partners from linking your activity to an advertising campaign.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For material changes we will notify you via a notice in the App.
